Seasons of Life…
A common phrase I’m sure you’ve heard often. What does it mean? And in particular, what does Spiritual Seasons Of Our Life mean?
A point in time in our lives where we are experiencing memorable, or not so memorable events… Wonderful things are happening: a great job promotion, the birth of a new child or grand-child to celebrate, a fabulous vacation to a tropical paradise with someone special. Or.. maybe a time of feeling lost in the deep caverns of despair; a serious illness, or the loss of a loved one. These are all seasons in our lives we each will, if we haven’t already, experience. All make up the story of each of our lives.
(For me, one of the most joyous times in my life, was the birth of my twin boy’s after years of infertility; and yet one of the very saddest times when my father of 70 years passed away.)
As we walk through these times, each season calls for us to be mindful of where we’re at, where our Higher Power is during this time, and how to be open to ‘listening’ to this Inner Knowing to guide us through. If a time of happiness and celebration, than an acceptance and appreciation with gratitude for these blessings. If a time of concern, worry and maybe sadness, than an openness to listening for guidance and comfort, and a knowing that we are never alone, no matter how hard it gets! (This I found so clearly to be true when my dear loved one passed.)
Unless someone is an infant, everyone will go through some version of different life-seasons while on this planet. This is a constant, as life will be forever about change. How do each of us maneuver through these times? How do you maneuver through them? Do you call upon a Higher Power to celebrate with, thank, rejoice when times are good, or maybe ask for support, guidance, direction when times are rough? Whether entering into a season of celebration, or a season of difficulty and concern, these are all spiritual seasons.
Each of these times calls for each of us to pay attention. To be aware of all that is happening in the present moment. An inner awarenes, a stillness which will allow for us to grow closer to that still, small voice within. A place where all the answers lie.
I have found guidance and help for myself by working with my own Spiritual Director. Spiritual Direction offers this kind of ‘knowing’. It allows me to sit in the Presence of this Higher Power knowing I am loved and cared for always. As I open myself up to this Presence, I allow for answers to come to me for things I may have had no idea how to handle. I open myself to an inner peace and a feeling of rest where I can get out of my head and reside in my heart-space. A true listening within… That is why I believe in the phrase, ‘Be Still and Know That I AM’ as the answer to so many of our questions, concerns, worries and prayers. How about you?
Have you ever experienced this inner peace, understanding, and knowing through spiritual direction during a spiritual season in your life? What was it like for you?
